NAATP convention: there in spirit

Posted 6 May 2016  We can’t be at the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers conference this year (May 15 to 17 in Ft. Lauderdale). But the book will be there: a copy in every attendee’s conference bag, courtesy of Dr. Brown. Yes, she’s serious about spreading the word on her step-based therapy!

Hear us on the Self-improvement Show Sept. 3

Posted 27 Aug. 2015  Dr. Brown and Laura will be talking about the book on Irene Conlan’s Self-improvement Show live on Thursday, Sept. 3, 4 p.m. eastern time. It promises to be a great discussion. An ordained minister who has performed several hundred weddings, Dr. Conlan has a masters in nursing and a doctorate in metaphysics, is a certified hypnotherapist, and had her own therapy practice for 12 years.

See you at the Art of Recovery Expo in September

Posted 25 June 2015  Laura MacKay and Len Baltzer will be at the annual Art of Recovery Expo in Phoenix on September 19. The Expo is open to the public and free of charge. Focused on adolescent, young adult, and family recovery, it’s meant to be a place where the entire family can go to explore and learn about ways to prevent and treat addiction. Len has been before, and he says there’s no recovery event quite like it. This year’s keynote speaker is Benoit Denizet-Lewis, the bestselling author of America Anonymous: Eight Addicts in Search of a Life.

On Recovery Radio, Dr. B on symptom substitution

Posted 25 May 2015  Neil Scott of the Seattle-based radio program Recovery Coast to Coast interviewed Dr. Brown while we were all at the annual conference of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) in May. In this 10-minute interview, Dr. Brown talks about the personal relapse that helped her begin to understand symptom substitution—a form of relapse no one is talking about. Click here to listen.

The nightly two-hour program (Monday through Friday, 10 p.m. to midnight PST) is devoted exclusively to addiction, with a positive focus on recovery. Other upcoming guests include Bonnie Raitt, Judy Collins, and Buzz Aldrin. Nice company, Dr. Brown!

May 16 to 18: Laura and Len at NAATP conference

Posted 15 April 2015   From May 16 to 18, Laura MacKay and Len Baltzer will be at the annual conference of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP), held this year in Carlsbad, CA, near San Diego. Len wrote the foreword for Addiction Is the Symptom and is a cofounder of the NAATP, which represents nearly 275 not-for-profit and for-profit addiction treatment providers.
